A penalty of fifty dollars ($50) per day shall be assessed for any employee and employer contribution transmittal report that is untimely. Untimely is defined as fifteen (15) days after the end of the month in which the transmittal report was due.
PERA is a 401 (a) qualified governmental plan that is governed by the New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Act
Deferred Contributions are Pre-Tax Contributions and Non-Deferred Contributions are after Tax Contributions. If you are not certain what your Entity falls under you can reach out to your Contribution Accounting Representative.
No matter how or why the employee is no longer employed, the employee status must be reported to PERA electronically through the PERA RIO system. The status must be reported in the employer regular report or in an adjustment report if the regular report has already been posted with a Status Code: Termination and Status Date Last date employee worked Applies to Municipalities & Counties only
You can email your Contribution Accounting Representative and request access. If you don't know who your representative is you can email PERA Contributions group email PERA-ContAcct@state.nm.us. Please include your Name, Entity, Email, and Title.
PERA Rule 2.80.400.10 (4) Elected officials who file with the association a written application for exemption from membership using the form prescribed by the association within twenty-four (24) months of taking office. Prior to filing the application for exemption, the elected official shall be a member. An application for exemption may be subsequently withdrawn by filing with PERA an executed PERA Membership application form.
PERA Rule 2.80.500.8 (B) The employer shall transmit to PERA the member and employer contributions for every member it employs for each pay period on or before the fifth working day following the payday applicable to the pay period. The contributions shall be accompanied by a transmittal report in a format designated by PERA, which shall clearly set forth the amount of employer and member contributions, and adjustments for prior pay periods if applicable, transmitted.
When an adjustment is created, the report will remain in a suspended status until an email has been sent to your assigned PERA representative for review and acceptance of the report. Please make sure any records included in the adjustment are cleared and not in a suspended status as this could cause a delay in processing the report. Encrypted Email Message Details
How To Open an Encrypted Email Message
To open an encrypted Microsoft Outlook email, you will need to use a special portal provided by Microsoft. The encrypted email will contain a link within the message body. Clicking this link will redirect you to the portal where you can use a one-time passcode or sign in with your Google account to view the message.
Step-by-step guide:
1.Open the email:
Open the encrypted email.
2.Click the link:
Locate and click the link provided within the message body that says "Read the message".
3.Using One-time Passcode: You’ll be redirected to a secure email portal
Open the email from 365@messaging.microsoft.com that contains the passcode.
Copy and paste the passcode from the email into the appropriate field on the secure portal.
Click Continue: The email will then open.
4.Sign in with Google:
You will be redirected to a Microsoft portal. Choose the option to sign in with your Google account.
Grant access:
You may need to grant the portal permission to access your Google account. Select "Allow" or "Yes" to proceed.
View the message:
The encrypted message will then be displayed in a new browser tab, allowing you to view the content.
